The West Indies Cricket teams, one of the most loved and exciting teams in world cricket, is joining the Macron family. Under the terms of the new partnership, Macron will supply technical sportswear (game kits, training and travel apparel) to the men’s, women’s and A teams, Academies and youth teams. This is the latest in a series of high profile and prestigious collaborations in the world of international cricket, and follows the agreement with Cricket Ireland announced last April.
The West Indies teams, under the leadership of the region’s governing body Cricket West Indies, is a unique team in sport, not just cricket. The West Indies international team, the West Indies, is unique in cricket and in international sport. It is the only team in cricket that represents a group of nations, drawing on the strength, skills and passion of each nation to unite through cricket and take on the world. It represents a total of 15 English speaking nations across the Caribbean: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Sint Maarten, Trinidad and Tobago and the US Virgin Islands.
Renowned as one of the most exciting, fearless teams in world cricket, the West Indies are one of the most successful teams in world cricket, pulling on the skills, talent and determination of the Caribbean people, to take on the world and win drawing on one of the smallest populations compared to other cricket nations. The West Indies were the first winners and first ever back-to-back winners of the Cricket World Cup (in 1975 and 1979) and reached the final again in 1983. The team’s trophy cabinet contains one ICC Champions Trophy (2004) and a ‘triplet’ from 2016 in the form of the ICC T20 World Cup (men and women) and the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup, making the Windies the only team in history to have been simultaneous world champions in three separate tournaments.
West Indies is one of the most successful sports teams in history. During a 15-year period from the early 1980s to mid 1990s they played unbeaten in Test cricket – for 29 consecutive series.
The current Men’s and Women’s West Indies teams feature world stars developing talent as a new era of players represents the Caribbean with the joy, innovation, fearlessness and swagger that epitomizes West Indies cricket.
“Given the history, success and international prestige of West Indies Cricket, we can be particularly proud of this partnership,” declared Gianluca Pavanello, CEO of Macron. “This further confirms the quality and reliability of the teamwear we supply to the growing number of sports federations who choose to wear the Macron Hero on their chest. We are committed to designing and producing game sets and technical garments that express the history, symbols and identity of West Indies Cricket.”
Dominic Warne, CWI’s Commercial Director said: “Cricket West Indies is looking forward to starting this new technical partnership with Macron which will will deliver benefits for fans, players and for the environment. The players will enjoy high quality technical apparel to support their high performance requirements. We know fans will enjoy the new maroon jersey designs and we’re ensuring supporters can purchase at all West Indies matches as through Macron’s e-commerce store. And the team jerseys are made from recycled plastic bottles reducing plastic waste and also energy in production. We’re looking forward to seeing lots of maroon in the stands and the streets as fans and players wear the new apparel with the T20 World Cup coming to the Caribbean in 2024.”
